Biography
In the heart of the historic monastery—now transformed into the luxurious San Domenico Palace, a Four Seasons Hotel—Principe Cerami rises as the gastronomic jewel of Taormina, Sicily. The restaurant offers a fine dining experience paired with breathtaking views of the Bay of Taormina, Mount Etna, and the city’s Ancient Theatre.
Awarded one MICHELIN star, Principe Cerami, founded under the guidance of Chef Massimo Mantarro in 2004, celebrates Sicily’s rich heritage with a contemporary touch. Every dish is crafted with meticulous attention to detail, playing with surprising textures, seasonal ingredients, and reimagined Mediterranean flavors that awaken the senses.
Born at the foot of Mount Etna, Massimo discovered his passion for cooking in his family garden, inspired by traditional Sicilian recipes passed down by his mother. Today, his culinary creations pay tribute to that legacy, as he himself states: “There is no innovation without tradition. Tradition fuels my thoughts in the kitchen—thoughts that I reformulate through culinary technique.”
Beyond his cuisine, Massimo is a passionate mentor who promotes a gastronomic culture rooted in creativity and the continuous pursuit of culinary excellence in Sicily.
“I believe it is important to never copy anyone. Wherever I go, there is an authentic reflection of myself and my culture. My goal is to innovate and continually create new projects.”
